This trip starts from Marrakech and proceeds to the Zagora Sand Dunes via the famous Tizi N’Tichka Pass (2260m), which is in the heart of the Atlas Mountains. Keep your eyes open for the Berber villages tucked away in the mountainside. Along the way you’ll enjoy a visit to Ait Ben Haddou, one of the world’s most magnificent Kasbahs. These authentic Berber villages have considerable world heritage where many movies have been filmed such as Lawrence of Arabia, Hidalgo, The Black Stallion Returns, Babel and Cleopatra.
The trip goes through Ouarzazate with its’ beautiful cinema studios, the Kasbah Taourirt, the old Galoui Palace, the river through the Draa Valley with many Kasbahs, the long palm tree oasis which produces famous dates, the village of Agdz, and finally Zagora. The massive adobe structures we see along the route are divided into houses that serve as habitations for families of these Kasbah villages where life has continued virtually unchanged over many centuries.
Zagora is also known as “Gate of the Sahara” as it’s the last town before the lush palm oases give way to nothing but sand and rocks as we drive into the Sahara.
Morning departure to Zagora through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2260m) and numerous Berber villages, to finally arrive at the UNESCO Ksar of Ait Benhaddou. Continuing along the road to Zagora we’ll pass through the Anti Atlas Mountains, Berber villages of Agdz and the amazing Draa Valley with its thousands of palm trees which is considered the largest oases in Morocco. We’ll arrive in the evening in Zagora where you will start your camel trekking into the middle of the desert for dinner and an overnight camp.
